Adele & Me: "Is there any gray here?"

In this segment, Adele is INCREDIBLY patient and tolerant with me as I dig into possibilities of gray area in a subject that is so deeply personal to her.

Please understand that I would NOT ask these questions in casual conversation with someone who didn't already have some relational foundation with me. It's easy for "outsiders" to try to talk "objectively," and I'm often guilty of that. For oppressed and marginalized people, objectivity is a luxury few can afford.

Adele's willingness to humor me in grappling with such sensitive material is a gift, as I work to reconcile my own relational dynamics with friends on both poles of the theological and social spectrum. I can't overstate the caution and humility in which I want to approach this particular subject matter. Thanks Adele!

Thanks for your willingness to be so open and to share your experiences and ponderings with such honesty. I'm really enjoying your conversations. Coming from a liberal Christian background, I struggle with what to do with people who hold viewpoints of a more fundamentalist nature. While intellectually I understand the arguments, in my heart I don't get it. It just doesn't make any sense to me, and feels so mean spirited and against my understanding of how God wishes us to relate to one another. So I too struggle with finding the grace filled grey area in a topic that feels so very black and white.

Thnx AychJE! It's not easy and I get hurt, pissed off and downright pissy with conservative right wing followers of Christ who tell me I'm going to he'll, an oxymoron, reprobate, etal! Yet I get where they are coming from cuz I have come from there. Doesn't mean I like it or agree, or that I wish they would change their minds, but I can't do that for them. They infuriate me at times but what can I do? Friends like Peter and conversations like the one we are having here help me to stay in the fray of Christianity, albeit at the fringes! Thnx for watching and for your thoughts!

Warmest Regards!
