I recently discovered Roger Ebert’s blog, and have been enjoying it immensely…

Here’s his treatise on Health Care Reform.

Of course I have the advantage of growing up in a country where socialized medicine has been around for decades. So, it is difficult to understand why there seems to be such opposition to the concept in the US. Do people really want to depend on something as insecure as coverage through their job? Don't people care about those who don't have that kind of coverage? (Not that we Canadians are perfectly loving and compassionate, but at least there were enough of that kind of people around years ago to 'encourage' the government to make it available for all.)I think it is interesting that it is the socialists (dare we say communists?) that exhibit a Christ-like compassion more than the conservatives or even liberals. Hmmm.
